Help your child with maths at home, one small step at a time.
Big Maths is already used in schools. The new Big Maths Beat That! app brings the same small-steps approach to families at home. It is available now on Android, and you can register now.

Small steps
Big Maths starts from what children can already do, then builds forward carefully.
No scores to children
No leaderboards. No marks. Children see a gentle journey, not a ranking.
Designed for home
The app gives short, calm practice at home.
Two ways families can use Big Maths
Choose the app independently of your school, or use the separate Big Maths at Home website.
Big Maths Beat That! app
A separate app for families at home, focused on the progression of basic maths skills. Your child’s school does not need to use Big Maths.
It helps you spot learning gaps and stumbling blocks, understand which skills need another look and support focused practice at home. Children build their Learn Its and CLIC skills in small steps, while you review their progress and share useful insight with their teacher or tutor.

Big Maths at Home
A website for families, with weekly Beat That! challenges. It is not the app.
Any family can sign up. It costs £5 a month for one child, or £3 per child a month for two or more. If your child’s school subscribes to Big Maths Online, it is free: ask your child’s teacher for the school PIN.

The Beat That! app
Big Maths Beat That! is the Big Maths app for families. It gives children short daily practice in the same Learn Its and CLIC skills they meet at school, and they watch a Progress Tree grow as they improve. The app is available now on Android.
Finds a starting point
A short Baseline helps the app begin from what your child already knows.
Gives small steps
Practice is built around small steps, so children can keep moving forward.
Shows progress gently
Children see a Progress Tree grow, not scores, marks, or rankings.
Keeps adults informed
Parents can see the picture without putting pressure on the child.
What helps when maths feels hard
Children often need a smaller step, not more pressure.
Start with what they can do
- If a child is stuck, the step may be too far from what they can already do
- Go back to something they can do confidently
- Build forward one small step at a time
Keep practice short
- A few minutes often works better than a long session
- Little and often helps number facts feel familiar
- Stop before it turns into a battle
Celebrate small steps
- Notice effort and confidence
- Avoid comparisons with siblings or classmates
- Build from what your child can already do
Learn Its: the number facts to practise at home
Learn Its are the 72 core number facts in Big Maths: 36 addition facts and 36 multiplication facts. Children learn them a few at a time until they can recall them instantly. See all 72 Learn Its and how to help at home.
What your child is learning
- Addition facts such as 4 + 3 and 6 + 6
- Multiplication facts such as 5 × 3 and 7 × 4
- Your child’s teacher can tell you which Learn Its they are working on
How to practise
- Pick two or three facts, not the whole set
- Say them aloud together for a few minutes a day
- Mix in facts your child already knows, so practice feels like success
One fact gives four
- Once a fact is secure, swap it round: 4 + 3 and 3 + 4
- Then try the matching subtraction or division facts
- See how fact families work
The Big Maths app gives children short daily Learn Its practice at home. It is available now on Android. See the Beat That! app.
